Midland Automobile Club Sports & Classics Section

Classic car events are becoming an increasingly important and popular part of the MAC's many activities. We organise three or four runs every year which are non competitive, highly social and great fun. Each run normally involves a visit to places of interest such as motor and aircraft collections, historic houses and gardens and consists of a simple route of 60/80 miles or so. Navigation instructions are always provided and we haven't lost anyone yet. These events are growing rapidly in popularity every year and are open to all MAC Members. Some venues are restricted in terms of numbers so it pays to keep an eye on the MAC News and this website and get your entry form and fee in as soon as possible. First come, first served!

More recently we have organized overseas tours too which add a new dimension to the fun of owning and driving your classic car. Vintage and Classic cars together with modern sports cars are all welcome and the definition of a Classic is always interpreted in the spirit rather than the letter. Opinions vary but it is generally accepted that it is a car produced over 20 years ago. It does not have to be a sports car, Morris Minors and Ford Anglias are as welcome as E type Jaguars and Austin-Healeys.

Over the last few years runs have involved visits to the RAF Museum at Cosford, Hampton Court Castle, Lord Heseltine's Thenford Arboretum, Southern Ireland, France, Scotland and the Mini plant at Cowley to name but a few. Every two years we run the 'MAC Classic' event which involves an extended 100 mile run and a chance to try the Hillclimb itself, non-competitively of course. This is a fund raising event to help conserve and improve the famous venue. The next one will be held on April 24th 2016, a date for your diary now. Open to all Classic car owners.
